Movie review - Spiderman - Homecoming
Marvel has come out with yet another awesome movie, now with my second most favorite (a close second to IronMan) in the Marvel multi-verse - Spiderman. It was a very fresh and modern reboot of Spiderman, with a brilliant performance by Tom Holland! It is aptly named, "homecoming", and they couldn't have welcomed back the super hero in the Avengers space in a better way!
I will give the movie a solid 8.5 / 10. It was an entertaining movie throughout, and I found myself rooting for the 15-year-old Spiderman the entire time! The movie hit all the correct notes for me (more details below).
Spoiler alert: If you haven't watched the movie, and care about spoilers, stop reading now!
+1 - No background story
We all know how Spiderman came to be. We have seen it in two movies! This movie doesn't focus on that part, which gives it a lot of room to develop the character of Peter Parker otherwise! No more uncle Ben's sad accident or the accidental spider bite which turned his world upside down.
+1 - Kid with a good heart
Tom was truly the next generation Spiderman. He actually DOES look like a kid, as opposed to Tobey Maguire in his first movie. He is just a kid with a good heart and wants to do good for the society and people around him with his powers. Although he really wanted to prove himself to Tony Stark, that he is worthy of being an Avenger, he gives it up in the end.
+1 - A modern hi-tech suit
Spiderman gets a super hi-tech suit, courtesy Tony Stark. With the suit, it's a perfect combination of a 15-year-old's instincts with the modern AI bot, almost like the funny banter we see Tony having with Jarvis. It has all sorts of things, including an inbuilt heater, a detachable drone and thousands of ways of slinging the web. It also has an "instant kill feature", which Peter never uses.
-1 - Not enough 3D effects
My only complaint with the movie is that there were nearly not enough 3D effects than what it could have! It was good to watch it in IMAX, but it could have been a lot better. The Amazing Spiderman 2 did a fantastic job of doing the 3D scenes correctly. Hopefully, they will fix it in the next one.
So yeah, there you go! It is definitely worth 2 hours of your time, if you like superhero movies in general!
